In the last 1980's in line with its policy of continuous research and
development SNS BUILDING SYSTEMS along with its UK. Associates developed
an alternative building material, with a gypsum base for certain specialist
applications. The earliest form of this material, known as Jesmonite, was used
to make the intricate and complex exterior decorative mugarnassat, wall finishes
and column claddings of the King Saud Mosque in Jeddah. Not only Jesmonite have
the advantage of offering many high quality finishes, e.g. imitation marble,
stone, slate, metallic, etc. but it is also much lighter than comparable
materials and hence easier to fix.
In 1990's the company was awarded a major Jesmonite contract, for intricate
ground floor arches for one of the buildings on the Canary Wharf project in
London's Docklands, UK. (the largest building complex in Europe). The architects
for the projects, were Skidmore Owens & Merril of the USA. They regularly
visited the Riyadh factory, to inspect the quality control during production,
thereby gaining their full confidence in SNS BUILDING SYSTEMS
